U-28 "Schwarze Katz" - Patrol #2/1 - Cat on south Irland
Patrol #2 of the "Schwarze Katz" U-Boat. First part of the patrol. --------------------------- After a first patrol driven by unluck with dud torpedoes and being driven away by enemy ships while searching merchants on the coastlines of England, the ship came into a destroyer that was unaware of its presence. Silent, U-28 delivered a strike on the enemy ship that sank leaving no survivors behind. Apparently German High Command did not belived about the sinking of the ship and did not record the tonnage. Patrol #2 began on the 6th of November 1939... a cold and dark night while the man were ready to get out again for the second time on patrol eager to get the first confirmed kill. The Atlantic Ocean was waiting them, the Canal wasn't safe enough to cross, so the Captain decided to get north of Scotland and then down west of Ireland hoping not to find too many destroyers. The great presence of neutral ships (Norwegians and Americans) are a constant problem and identification is necessary above everything else. -------------------------------- Patrol #1 was not recorded. -------------------------------- "Schwarze Katz" war diary on http://schwarzekatzuboat.blogspot.com/
